Nicole A. Penke, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologists and specializes in cataract surgery & comprehensive ophthalmology. She has more than ten years of experience in treating the medical health of the eye, including routine and complicated diagnoses.

Dr. Penke graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in 2007. She completed her internal medicine year at MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her Ophthalmology residency through the University at Buffalo. She was appointed Chief Resident for her final year of training. After graduation, she joined a practice in northern Virginia, relocated to Arizona the following year, and remained there for five years. Dr. Penke moved to North Carolina in 2017 to be closer to family and joined Carolina Ophthalmology Associates. In January 2024, Dr. Penke joined North Carolina Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat.

 Dr. Penke aims to ensure patients understand their eyes, diagnoses, and treatment. She strongly believes in patient education. Dr. Penke performs the standard phacoemulsification cataract procedure and laser-assisted cataract surgery using advanced technology lenses such as multifocal and toric implants.

 She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Dr. Penke is originally from Buffalo, NY, but is now surrounded by family in North Carolina. She has three children and enjoys traveling, running, golfing, and spending time with her family.
